In December 2006 we opened our doors with an innovative mission to deliver seafood direct from vessels to customers, cutting out the middleman. We have gone from strength to strength and thank our many customers and look forward to serving you over the coming years.
Having only launched North Beach Fish and Chips in March 2015, Barry enjoyed enormous success in a very short time, achieving the National Federation of Fish Friers 5 star Quality Award and attaining the Marine Stewardship Council chain of custody certification.
To be in the top 3 Best Newcomers in the country is testament to the attention to detail, passion and commitment needed to achieve the recognition of such a top national award.
To reach this stage, North Beach Fish and Chips had to impress the judges on customer service, marketing, sustainable sourcing, plus a mystery shopper evaluating the quality and taste of the fish and chips.
In the Yorkshire and North East Region we especially congratulate Xpressfish customers Fish and Chips at 149 in Barnard Castle, Millers Fish & Chips in Haxby near York and Whitehead's Fish & Chips of Hornsea whom we are proud to supply with Thorfish MSC cod and haddock caught by Icelandic fishery Thorbjorn and distributed direct in the UK by Xpressfish.
"Fish supplied from MSC certified fisheries is a key part of building a sustainable fish and chip business," said Xpressfish Managing Director Simon Tomlinson. "It is a great thrill to see Icelandic Thorfish cod and haddock on the menu at these top quality fish and chip shops and I wish each of the shortlisted contestants success in the next round of the 2017 Awards."
Sjómannadagur is an annual celebration of Iceland's seafaring culture in honour the bravery of their sailors and fishermen. During the festivities - traditionally on the first Sunday of June - all vessels stay in harbour and are decorated as a centrepiece to the festivities. Street entertainment and competitions between households take place on fishing theme.
XpressFish send their warmest regards to the Icelandic fishing community; especially the fisherfolk of Thorfish who supply XpressFish direct into the UK with the finest quality Icelandic Cod and Haddock.
Freddie's visit was in advance of a TV programme he is to appear in - Flintoff: Lord of the Fries - which will see the cricketer teaming up with extreme cyclist Rob Penn, touring the UK and Ireland in an eco-friendly chip van.
Freddie is so fanatical about the quality of fish and chips that he wants to open his own business and visited Quayside and the Fusco family who run the business to see and taste first hand the quality of their National Award Winning fish and chips.
"Fish and Chips have always been one of my biggest vices believe it or not so I'm glad Sky1 have given me the chance to go on my very own Fish 'n' Chip adventure," said Flintoff. "Rob and I had a once in a lifetime experience cycling through the Amazon so I'm hoping this chip shop van journey will be just as much fun but maybe a little less sore!"
Flintoff: Lord Of The Fries will air next year and will include six 60 minute episodes in which Flintoff and co presenter Rob Penn travel the UK serving the British public fish and chips from their eco-friendly, cooking-fat-fuelled mobile chippy.
Their journey will begin at a Lancastrian chip shop on the humble housing estate where Freddie grew up and will bring the nation’s favourite food to hungry summer revellers throughout the land, on and off the beaten track.
The programme will see the boys celebrating fish and chips during their journey, including a visit to The Quayside in Whitby; Fish & Chip Shop of the Year 2014.
Ray Clutterbrook said, "It was a great pleasure to meet a true sporting legend. I hold the 2005 Ashes series as the greatest and most dramatic of all sporting events that I have ever seen. Freddie is a fantastic personality and still a formidable athlete.” He and his wife Rachael have decided to open a chippy in London. Ray added, “whether he is skittling the Aussies, chasing pigs in the Amazon or frying fish, Freddie will always make it a huge success”.
"We spoke about Thorfish, the sustainable supply of top quality Icelandic cod and haddock exclusive to XpressFish in Britain. XpressFish are honoured to supply Quayside, Royal Fisheries and other Fusco Fish & Chip outlets in Whitby."

The shop, run by the Fusco family and represented by brothers Stuart and Adrian Fusco, was announced as Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year 2014 by awards host, professional and TV Michelin star chef, Jean-Christophe Novelli at a prestigious ceremony at London's Lancaster London hotel.
Stuart Fusco of Quayside said: "I cannot tell you how immensely proud we are to have won and be named as the best Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop in the UK! We are a family business that has worked really hard to get to this point and we couldn't have done that without the amazing team we have around us.
"A great deal of time goes into running our business, from working with our local suppliers to ensure all of our raw ingredients are traceable, sustainable and natural, developing our staff and ensuring we have a great product to sell to our loyal customers.
Organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood, the Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Award recognises the wealth of quality, value and choice offered by the nation's much loved independent fish and chip shops serving up the UK's 'national dish'.
Paul Williams, Chief Executive of Seafish, said: "Quayside stood out for their commitment and determination throughout the entire judging process and we'd like to congratulate them in taking the top accolade."
Now in their 26th year, the National Fish & Chip Awards continue to be the most prestigious industry event for anyone involved in sourcing, producing and selling the UK's most iconic dish.
